Paul was born in La Crosse, June 22, 1959, to Philip Joseph Steinhoff and Margaret Mary (O’Neil) Steinhoff. He was the youngest of six children. Paul attended Holy Trinity Elementary School in La Crosse, and graduated from Aquinas High School, class of 1977. Paul received his nursing degree from Western Wisconsin Technical College in June 1990. On Aug. 21, 1993, he married Sandra Ann Anderson. To this union was born Gabrielle Margaret Steinhoff May 21, 1997. Gabrielle brought Paul immeasurable joy and happiness. He was incredibly proud of her past accomplishments and excited for her bright future.

Paul began his nursing career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after his graduation. He spent his entire career as a psychiatric nurse. He was greatly respected and appreciated by both his patients and his co-workers. Paul was an accomplished athlete, lettering in football and track at Aquinas. He coached Gabrielle in tennis from the age of five and one of his greatest pleasures was spending time on the tennis court with her. He also loved golfing, hiking, playing garbage ball and was the current Garbage Ball Champ.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sandra; and his daughter, Gabrielle. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Corinne Snyder (David); father-in-law, Lyle Anderson (Louise), and father-in-law, Larry Norris (Sharon). He is further survived by four brothers and one sister, Philip (Nancy), Daniel (Vicki), Jerry, James (Cindy), all of La Crosse, and Eileen Burkhart (Philip) of Austin, Minn. Paul is also survived by his brother-in-law, Thomas Anderson (Deb); and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul loved his pets, including Teddy, Jack, Winnie, and Joey.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, at Coulee Region Cremation Group, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, with visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Chaplain Jeff Thomson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sandra Steinhoff to assist with Gabrielle’s education at the University of Minnesota.
